Noam Or

Noam Or was a 17-year-old resident of Kibbutz Be’eri, living with his family. On October 7, Noam, along with his father Dror Or and younger sister Alma, was taken hostage by Hamas terrorists who attacked their home. This traumatic event occurred when the terrorists forced the family out of their safe room and set their house on fire. Tragically, Noam's mother, Yonat Or, was killed during the attack.

Noam's younger sister, Alma, was 13 years old at the time and was also taken captive alongside him. However, their older brother Yahli and their dog Nella were not present during the attack and thus survived unharmed.

Noam, along with his sister Alma, endured the ordeal of captivity for weeks until they were released on November 25.

After their release, Noam and Alma faced the heartbreaking news that their mother had been killed during the attack, and their father remained missing. This added a new layer of trauma to their already difficult experience. Despite the challenges, Noam and Alma displayed resilience during their captivity, forming a close bond with another woman held hostage with whom they shared a room in Gaza.

Upon their reunion with their older brother Yahli, and their paternal grandparents, the wider family learned about the harrowing circumstances of the siblings' abduction. Noam and Alma recounted the terrifying moments when they were forced out of their home by Hamas gunmen and how they attempted to hide before being captured and taken to Gaza. Their uncle stated “When Hamas terrorists burned their house in order to force them out of the safe room, the kids jumped from the window and tried to hide in a different place but the terrorists found them and took them to Gaza in a stolen car from the kibbutz. They put Noam in the trunk and my niece in the front with eight other Hamas terrorists.”
