Gali Tarshansky, a 13-year-old girl from Kibbutz Be'eri, was taken hostage by Hamas terrorists during a brutal attack that claimed the lives of over 100 residents of her community and resulted in the abduction of numerous individuals to Gaza.
During the incursion, Gali was in a safe room with her 15-year-old brother, Lior, and their father, Ilya. Tragically, the terrorists killed Lior; in a desperate bid for survival, Gali and her father jumped out of the window to escape; Ilya survived the attack and was not taken captive.
The bond between Gali and Lior was described by family members as incredibly close, highlighting the profound loss and impact on Gali. Known for her vibrant and fun-loving nature, Gali's interests included making TikTok videos, cooking, baking, and playing volleyball. She also had a deep love for dogs, particularly her own dog, Mocha, who was also tragically murdered in the attack on October 7.
Gali's release on November 29 brought a mixture of relief and sorrow. While her freedom marked the end of her physical captivity, the emotional and psychological scars from the loss of her brother, the trauma of her abduction, and the violence she witnessed are challenges she and her family will continue to face in the aftermath of such a devastating experience.
