Elma Avraham, an 84-year-old resident of Kibbutz Nahal Oz, was abducted by Hamas on October 7, during a an attack on her home. As her son Uri Ravitz, who was in Tel Aviv at the time, helplessly listened over the phone to the distressing sounds of shouting in Arabic outside her residence, Avraham found herself unable to lock the door to her home's shelter, leaving her vulnerable to the intruders.
The situation escalated when, hours after their last communication, Avraham's other son, who was also in a safe room within Nahal Oz, was freed by IDF soldiers. Upon arriving at their mother's house, they discovered signs of forced entry and a disarrayed home, but no trace of Avraham. The grim reality of her abduction was later confirmed through a distressing photograph showing Avraham seated on a motorcycle, flanked by two armed Hamas militants.
