Abigail Edan, a 4-year-old girl, spent her fourth birthday in captivity after being taken hostage by Hamas terrorists during a tragic attack on her family's home on October 7. During the attack, Abigail witnessed the heartbreaking murder of her parents, Smadar and Roy Edan, who were shot and killed by the militants. Abigail's father shielded her during the attack but was fatally wounded.
Following the attack, Abigail crawled from underneath her father and sought refuge at a neighbor's house, but the militants found her there and took her hostage along with the family living next door. For 50 days, Abigail's family held onto hope for her safe return, describing her as a precocious toddler who "ran" her household.
Abigail's release came on Sunday November 26th. Upon her release, her family expressed immense relief and gratitude, although they also mourned the loss of Abigail's parents.
Abigail's grandfather, Carmel Edan, expressed disbelief and overwhelming joy upon seeing photos of his granddaughter en route to Israel. He eagerly awaited her arrival, expressing a desire to hold her close and offer comfort. Abigail's siblings, who survived the attack by hiding in a closet, also anxiously awaited her return, hoping for closure and healing after the traumatic events they experienced.
