Mathias Burstein

Age 41

Both Matias and his wife, Einav, were murdered by Hamas terrorists at the Nova Festival. Following the harrowing massacre, the whereabouts of the couple became a cause for concern, with mounting fears that they might have been abducted to Gaza. Seeking assistance from the public, their families resorted to posting ads on social media platforms, sharing images and contact details. Eventually, the body of Matias was positively identified, and on Thursday, he was laid to rest in Kibbutz Maoz Haim.

Despite clinging to hope for positive developments regarding Einav's well-being, the community received heartbreaking news. Seventeen days after the tragic event, Einav's body was identified. She was buried alongside Matias at Kibbutz Maoz Haim. The couple leaves behind three daughters, aged 12 (soon to celebrate a Bat Mitzvah) and 9, who are now orphaned.

Matias was a prominent figure in Karmiel, renowned for operating a shop specializing in bicycle sales and repairs. In more recent years, the couple diversified into the food and meat industry. The Municipality of Karmiel paid tribute: "In these difficult days, our hearts go out to his dear family who lost the one dearest to them. May God grant that you will never know any more sorrow. The Municipality of Karmiel will continue to support the family."
