Nadav Popplewell

Age 51 when abducted

Nadav Popplewell, age 51, was taken captive by Hamas terrorists on October 7, along with his mother, Channah Peri, who is 79 years old. The abduction occurred in Kibbutz Nirim, a community located near the border with Gaza.

On that morning, Nadav's sister Ayelet Svatitzky called their mother to warn her about the presence of terrorists who had infiltrated Kibbutz Nirim. Channah Peri rushed to her safe room, but unfortunately, she realized that the door couldn't be locked, leaving her vulnerable to the intruders.

Ayelet, concerned for her family's safety, contacted Nadav, who lived near their mother's home, to alert him to the danger. During their phone call, Ayelet could hear Arabic-speaking voices in the background, indicating the presence of the Hamas terrorists.

The family's next communication came in the form of a photo sent from Channah Peri's phone, showing her and Nadav standing together in her living room. The chilling text message accompanying the image simply read, "Hamas." Subsequently, another picture was posted on Channah Peri's Facebook page, depicting her with Nadav and an armed Hamas gunman in the corner, confirming their captivity.

Tragically, Nadav and Ayelet's older brother, Roi Popplewell, aged 54, was shot and killed on that fateful Shabbat morning behind his home in Nirim. Channah Peri was unaware of her son's murder until after her release from captivity.

Channah Peri was eventually released on November 24 as part of a temporary ceasefire deal, however Nadav Popplewell remains in captivity.
